It’s been two weeks since I came back from Budapest. I totally fell in love with the city and I would love to go back there tomorrow if I could – but I am planing my next trip in spring 2016 when the weather is better again. And as promised, here comes part one of my Budapest Travel Diary where it’s all about our apartment, sightseeing and everything you should do and see in Budapest. In my second part I will tell you more about cafés, bars and restaurants…

After booking our flights my girls and I searched for an apartment on Airbnb and immediately found the perfect one. It was love at first sight! As you can see above the interior was very cool, clean and simply beautiful. It had a big bed, a bed couch, a huge bathroom and everything we needed for our 6 days in Budapest. In front of the door there where many restaurants, supermarkets and also the Metro Astoria. The location of our apartment couldn’t be better and we could walk anywhere. It took us about 10 Minutes to the Danube River or the shopping promenade „Váci utca“. The jewish neighborhood was in front of our door – and it’s well known for it’s many cool cafés, bars and restaurants…

We’ve stayed 6 days in Budapest, which at first seemed a little bit to much for a city trip but it turned out to be just perfect. We were able to walk around the city without being under time pressure, we were also able to sleep as long as we wanted and see so much of Budapest. I recommend you to stay at least for 4 days, so you will have enough time for sightseeing and also for all the good restaurants and cafés. There are plenty of them, but I will tell you more about that soon!

Above you can see the Liberty Bridge at sunset, the big wheel at Erzsébet Square, a pretty flower bike in front of a random flower shop and last but not least the Heroes‘ Square – with lots of parks and museums close by!

🙂 // The view from our apartment! It look like New York, don’t you think? 🙂

Did you know that Budapest is actually two cities? The one on the left side is called Buda and the right side is called Pest – where our apartment was also located. But an excursion to the Buda side is definitely a must! We walked across the bridge and up to the Fisherman’s Bastion Halászbástya, from where you will have the most wonderful view on Budapest. It’s such a magical and romantic place, which is worth da visit at day and night-time. Then we walked down again (see first photo above) and back to the Pest side where we took a boat at Vigadó tér (mooring place 10) for a one hour ride along the Danube (7€ only). It was very interesting to hear all about Budapests history and my favorite building was definitely the Parliament (which you can see in the back of the picture above)…

The first photo was taken from the big wheel, that is a must if you are in Budapest! I enjoyed this view so much and it only costs about 8€ 🙂 Also you can see the castle Vajdahunyad, the biggest church St.-Stephans-Basilika and a beautiful and impressive house front close to our apartment…

A must when in Budapest: Spend a day in one of the 15 baths, which are known know for its healing water and the natural springs. We went to Gellért Bath on a rainy day and enjoyed it a lot…

Oh, Budapest… // Oh, Budapest… You stole my heart and now you’re my number 2 of the most beautiful cities, right after Paris. I will come back soon again, that’s for sure!

  1. Beautiful photos<3

    Denise

  3. Looks so beautiful. I will put this city on my ‚travel list‘.

Have a lovely day, Magdalena 🙂

  4. Wow! Beautiful photo diary! Makes me wanna visit Budapest right away!

  5. Great pictures 🙂

  6. Budapest was already on my travel list but now even more! Seriously, it looks amazing!
And yes, 6days may seem long but I hate when you have to rush from this to that and back to see everything you want, which will probably never gonna happen, so why not a week in a city like you did?! I think it’s good that you did that 🙂
What I’m wondering, may be kind of a stupid question, but do you really feel different/that something has healed after the healing bath? (I have lots of medical issues so very curious..)
PS : how are the streets of Budapest? Are they flat or not really good to do with a wheelchair?
    xx. L

  7. Wundervoll! Bei mir steht Paris auch ganz oben 🙂
    xx, hanna
